Marwa was born in Mubi, Adamawa State by a Physical Education officer of the army, Buba Marwa. The Brigadier-general (rtd) was bred in Lagos, having attended both primary and secondary schools in Ikeja area of the city. It was gathered that his upbringing in the metropolis became an asset when he was appointed administrator of the state in 1996. Marwa had his military training at the Nigerian Military School, Zaria and the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna. Unlike most of his contemporaries, he made efforts to acquire academic training in order to enhance his professional status. The former administrator attended the University of Pittsburgh and Harvard University where he obtained first and second degrees, in Public administration. Marwa was one of the few intellectuals in the army. |
It was gathered that he made good money from his publications: Marwa Series I and II known as the Nigerian Army dictionary. His academic attainment, however set him at logger heads with a cabal in the army whose members envied him. He served as deputy Defence Adviser (Army) at the Nigerian Embassy in
Washington
DC
and later as defence adviser at the Nigerian Permanent Mission with the United Nations Headquarters in
New York
. He was appointed governor of
Borno
State
in 1990, and he became the 11th governor of
Lagos
State
in 1996 where he served excellently well, particularly in the provision of necessary infrastructures. Among his laudable programmes in
Lagos
are “Operation 250 Roads” rehabilitation through the Direct Labour Agency, the anti-crime “Operation Sweep”, the Rent Edict, as well as war against touts, among numerous others.
On retirement from the Nigerian Army, he ventured into business; the aviation industry to be precise. Since the coming of Albarka Air Services in the aviation industry, the concept of quality service to the customer has given the airline a competitive edge and it has left a lot of other airlines that were there before the coming of Albarka Air Services wondering what has happened to them.
Albarka Air Services has acquired more Boeing 727 Aircrafts preparatory to its launching of their quality flying to the West African Countries, African Countries and later to the International routes.
The Chairman of Albarka Air Services, said after launching the West African routes, the next stage will be to cover the entire African Continent, after which they will apply for permission to fly the international routes. He concluded that the airline will never rest until it becames a household name in the International Aviation Industry.
Albarka Air Services which has as its slogan “The People’s Airline” is just two years old in the aviation industry and within those two years of their being in business, the airline has succeeded in changing the face of aviation business in
Nigeria
.
Currently, the airline covers
Lagos ,
Abuja , Yola,
Ibadan ,
Maiduguri
, Port Harcourt
and Makurdi. Albarka is
Nigeria
’s leading airline because it has in its fleet, eight good and serviceable aircrafts that are flying regularly. Albarka flies to more destinations than any other airline in
Nigeria
and it has 27 departures (Mondays to Fridays), more departures than any other airline in
Nigeria
.
