ND supporters call Prof. Isa
Odidi to contest for President in 2007
in Kaduna, June 18, 2006
The
emerging New Democrats (ND), one of the 37 Political Parties registered by
INEC in Nigeria was yesterday reported to have received more than 1000
handwritten signatures from supporters from the six geo-political zones
asking the Party's Chairman, Prof. Isa Odidi to join the race for the
highest office in Nigeria. The letter was received by the Party's National
Secretary, Dr Baba J Adamu during a meeting with ND officials in Kaduna
yesterday.
The National Secretary
of the ND, Dr Baba J Adamu, briefing newsmen at the end of a meeting of
the party's Exco in Kaduna yesterday said the clarion call to the Chairman
to contest for President in 2007 is an echo of the call by Nigerians in
Diaspora and increasingly, we are constantly being approached asking the
Chairman to contest. Who else better to champion the ND Strategic Economic
and Infrastructural Solution for Nigerians other the our Chairman?. You
will recall Prof. Isa Odidi was among the 50 special delegates appointed
by President Obasanjo during the National Political Reform Conference (NPRC),
and he was also in the economic committee of the conference, so therefore,
we shall gather all the signed papers and pass them on to him for his
consideration.
When asked when will the
party conduct its National Convention, the Secretary added: "we are
looking at a period between September and December 2006, but surely you
will be the first to know once NEC decides when it will take place
(referring to the journalists).
The ND NEC had in May
2006 unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the Chairman, Prof. Isa
Odidi-led 2007 Strategic Committee and asked it to carry on with the task
of positioning the party towards 2007. The Chairman, Prof. Isa Odidi who
is also the Chairman of IntelliPharmaCeutics, a leading Pharmaceutical
company in Canada with a royal title of Sardauna of Zuba and recipient of
numerous Awards both Scientific and Philanthropic is currently in the US,
and could not be reached for comment. The new Democrats (ND) is
increasingly gaining grounds in Nigeria because it promised to provide
sustainable power supply to the whole nation within 3 and half years when
it comes in to power, and it has elaborate economic, social and
poverty-eradication programs for the nation so flamboyantly presented in
its web site; www.ndnigeria.com
