                                             PRESS RELEASE ON

THE FUTURE OF NIGERIA AND THE SPECTER OF CONSTITUTIONAL    ANARCHY- OUR POSITION.

Having painstakingly analysed the political saga in Ekiti, Anambra and Plateau states and all the undemocratic maneuvers in these states and about seven other states so far earmarked to be submerged in the muddy waters of political instability, we as adherents of the spirit and practice of democracy feel it is appropriate and pertinent for us to make our position on the controversial and constitutional anarchy being aided and abated in the country.

It is totally absurd and unbelievable that President Obasanjo has allowed his administration to toe the path of inglorious exit as political events in the country portray. What baffles this noble political movement is the fact that the President’s lapdogs have failed to look straight into his eyes and tell him that his administration has lost conscience and has derailed into the murky waters of autocratic and tyrannical rule. What Nigerians are experiencing at present in the country’s political terrain is reminiscent of the Military dark days, and now is the time for Nigerians to rise in unison and say no to this dictatorial trait running in the arteries of President Obasanjo.

Nigerians who are in the true picture of what is happening to the key gladiators who fought Obasanjo’s tenure elongation bid should now know that OBJ is a bad loser as he is now destroying his little achievements in the name of fighting anti 3rd term democrats. As much as we don’t condone or support corruptive tendencies in any form but sitting back and watching the EFCC incite and serve as a conduit pipe through which lawmakers in some marked states commence impeachment proceedings against some governors in the name of fighting corruption and maladministration is morally debasing, condemnable and a travesty of democracy by the Presidency.  Therefore Mr. President’s rash and hasty decision of exploiting the impeachment clause in the constitution in an undemocratic manner is to us an act of tyranny.

We view the latest action of the President in the Ekiti episode as the climax of a script of a stage-managed drama to oust Governor Fayose, who ironically was the chairman of the moribund PDP Governors' Panel set up by President Obasanjo to select his successor from within the governors.

To members of Turaki Vanguard World wide and lovers of democracy in Nigeria, democracy entails building and deepening of its institutions. Therefore, subverting the workings and processes of such institutions breeds tyranny, autocracy, anarchy and above all, political disunity and chaos.

Another script is currently being acted in Plateau State where President Obasanjo is aiding all manner of illegalities and unconstitutional process to remove and possibly humiliate Governor Joshua Dariye. Or does it mean the Presidency is not in a clear picture of the killing of innocent civilians by the police in Plateau State in the latter’s quest to provide cover for a hatchet job? Is this not the time for the Presidency to broker peace between the warring factions in Plateau and allow due process to prevail, even if there is the need for impeachment?

Fuelling and allowing political crisis in about 10 states earmarked by the presidency to degenerate into constitutional anarchy is the worst sin against humanity, being committed by the Obasanjo administration.

In Anambra State, the appeal of the Ohanaze Ndi Igbo and the embodiment of the suffering and struggle of Ndi Igbo Chief Odumegwu-Ojukwu couple with the plea of Governor Peter Obi and other well-meaning Nigerians to the State House of Assembly members to have a rethink over the impeachment notice served on  Governor Obi in the interest of peace makes no sense to the members of the State Assembly as it seem they are hell-bent of carrying out the caprices and wishes of those at Abuja without learning any lesson from Ekiti episode – what a pity ?.

From the unconstitutional way and manner Governor DSP Alamieyesigha of Bayelsa , Rashidi Ladoja of Oyo State, and Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State were removed from office suggest that the country is on the threshold of programmed tyranny and anarchy , which will likely lead to the President declaring a state of emergency in the country thereby actualizing his incongruous  third term agenda.

In view of this systematic incitement of political hullabaloos in some states under the guise of impeachment, we are calling on Nigerians to be on the watch out to oppose any move by the Presidency to shift elections in 2007 because of orchestrated political instability in some flashpoints in the country.

This designed move by the Presidency to predispose the country to political impasse should be resisted by all and sundry in order to save the already ailing democracy.

The above acts notwithstanding we view the poor financing and unprepared ness of INEC as exhibited by its failure to provide adequate materials/equipment for the ongoing voters registration/revalidation exercise as part of the grand plan to frustrate the 2007 general polls in the country to provide a leeway for the actualisation of tenure elongation  of President Obasanjo. For instance, how would INEC convince Nigerians that the 33,000 photographic devices can cover 120,000 registration units in a population of about one hundred million eligible voters?- if it is not a grand design to under register and disfranchise many Nigerians as possible  in order to impose a stooge as our next president should Baba fail in his latest tenure elongation plot

It is highly regrettable and most unfortunate that President Obasanjo in a bid to elongate his tenure beyond the constitutionally stipulated maximum of 8 years; and in trying to get back at patriotic Nigerians led by Vice President Atiku Abubakar who killed this initial evil intent – has condescended cheaply low, thus becoming Nigeria’s number one violator of the constitution and none observer and no respecter of rule of law etc.

Considering the fact that our dear country is seating on a keg of gunpowder based on one man's dictatorial antics, we hereby do appeal to lovers of democracy and genuine democrats as well as opinion leaders, the traditional institution, elder statesmen, the NASS and indeed all Nigerians both at home and in the Diaspora to rally round Vice President Atiku Abubakar to ensure that their fears and worries that President Obasanjo has choreographed a de facto third term for himself may not be actualized after all.

Nigerians belong to all of us, and this explains why every body must contribute his quota to keep the country united and indivisible rather than standing aloof and watch an unforgiving heart destroy our country because of selfish ambition.

It is our sincere resolve and belief that this democracy we got through divine intervention must be given a chance to grow other than allowing the will of one man to overcome that of millions of Nigerians.

Also, we are appealing to the coalition of Progressives, including members of the National Assembly to condemn all these ulterior moves that may plunge our country into a chaotic situation. We believe, as worthy representatives of Nigerians and watchdogs over arbitrary rule that NASS will once again condemn totally the spate of constitutional breaches going on in the country as they amount to brazen rape of the country’s constitution and democratic norms.

Finally, we commend most Nigerians who not minding the orchestrated plots to smear the person and office of our next President come 2007 Atiku Abubakar by standing steadfastly behind him and  have express their readiness and preparedness to support his candidature when the time comes.

May God almighty continue to protect us all and save our hard earned democracy from unprincipled maneuvers.
