PDP AND 2007: MATTERS ARISING

The recent guidelines by the PDP that before one gets

the party’s ticket had to be a registered member for

at least two years is ploy by the leadership of the

party to do away with people. Equally, the directives

to aspirants that one has to resign from the seat that

he or she is occupying 30 days to the primaries is

really to hamstrung those that are only desirous to

occupied various political offices to the detriment

and at the expense of the people.

Though, it is good the initiative, but, at least there

is the ample need for the party to seriously have a

thought about the issues as there is the likelihood

that the party may lose potential aspirants that would

have greatly help the party to actualize the

philosophy and manifesto of the party towards

alleviating the problems bedeviling the nation such as

the unemployment, insecurity, inadequate power supply

that have become the order of the day thereby leading

to the closure of so many industries across the

country.

It also implies that the recent guidelines made by the

party, is quite tailored towards eliminating some

aspirants that have so far indicated their ambition to

vie for the office of the President, Governor and

other political offices.

The PDP as the largest political party in Africa as

being postulated by it’s rank and file and even

supporters need to open and have a free level field

for those that want to contest for the aforementioned

political offices during the coming 2007 general

election.

From all indication, and with the defeat of the famous

third term, the current leadership of the party is not

quite disposed to having some people that does not

aligned themselves with them from getting political

offices through a free and fair election. The thinking

of the leaders is that they cannot tow towards them.

In other words, the leaders could only dance to the

tune of its masters that can only dictates to them on

what they want them to do for them.

Until proved that the leaders have no any inkling to

what is in the offing as regards the people vying for

elective offices who cannot perform there is no point

raising and placing this criterion of being a card

carrying member and has spend two year in the party

before vying for elective position under the banner of

the so-called the largest political party in the

continent.

The guidelines from all intents and purposes, are

meant to drive away so many potential, hard working

politicians that have their eyes on some key political

position.

Some people opined that the leadership of the party is

only following the dictates of a person that was face

with no option than to pack his luggages for the final

disengagement from the Aso-Rock to the comfort of his

farm at otta so as to have time and crack jokes.

All the unsavouring incidents recorded so far are

unsettling in the PDP under Dr. Ahmadu Ali the current

Chairman of the party. The new guidelines are

primarily adopted to really suit the personal desire

of one that wanted to become relevant even if he

leaves in 2007.

Desperation, intriques, maneuvering have all rear

their ugly head in order to champion the cause of a

man that thought that there is no any

reasonable, credible and honest person that can

Steer the big ship of the country. After, all the

gruely and unscrupulous manner that the party wanted

to take by supporting the now (dead) third term which

publicly the garrison commander Ahmadu Ali admitted

that the party supported and threaten to deal with any

member of the party that does not support it, the

party now want to deal with anti- third timers.

Interestingly, the politics in the PDP is becoming

sophisticated as the members of the political party no

longer feel threaten by the threat made by the

leadership of the party that want to use coercion to

force them support an illegal act like the elongation

of the tenure of the present administration of

President Obasanjo.

The new guidelines of the PDP would lead to a mass

exodus of a great number of party supporters defecting

to other political parties. It is quite to scuttle the

ambition of some people that the PDP come out with the

guidelines and this people are the ones that made what

PDP is today by using their time, energy and resources

to uplift the party and put it on the pedestal of

success in 1999 and 2003.

As a political party that pronounced itself the

largest in Africa, it ought to leave its door wide

open for all its members seeking for the various

political offices in 2007. But, with the guidelines

adopted by the party, there is the possibility to see

mass anti-party activities by those that can even

remain in the party.
