NIGERIANS THINK BUHARI/IWEALLA ALLIANCE CANNOT WORK

BABANDI GUMEL <bagumel@btinternet.com>

 Aug 17, 2006

The article written by me suggesting the formation of an alliance between the former Military Leader General Muhammadu Buhari and the former Finance Minister and lately Foreign Minister Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iwealla before resigning from the Cabinet has attracted much attention of many Nigerians. Many of my Nigerian comrades have written complaining against the suggested alliance which they think it may not work. Even though what I suggested in the article was a hypothetical theory yet many of them were so critical of both Buhari and Iwealla herself. In some of the E-Mails written most of them opposed the idea sometimes questioning the honesty of the general equating him with all the past leaders described the same corrupt leaders who should not be allowed to rule again. While some acknowledging the sincerity of Buhari yet they prefer Iwealla/Ribadu Alliance or Iwealla/El Rufai Alliance than Buhari/Iwealla Alliance. Dr Ngozi Iwealla herself was not spared from the criticism for tainting herself in joining the Obasanjo Cabinet .They also questioned her integrity for lying to the public saying that she resigned because of pressing family issue while in actual fact she was humiliated and sidelined by the same inept corrupt Government of President Obasanjo Let me bring you two of the E-Mails that were sent to me which make very interesting reading.

The problem with the North West axis of Nigeria is that they think is their birth right to rule Nigeria.

Imagine one Babandi Gumel saying Buhari/Iweala 2007.

I was thinking he would have Iweala/Ribadu 2007 or at most Atiku/Iweala 2007 or even Gana/Iweala 2007 since the above grouping are in the party. But alas Buhari/Iweala.

It is time for complete change in Nigeria. At least we have seen young generation of Nigeria that can Deliver not recycling old cargoes like Buhari, Babangida and Co who stole our money and still use it to intimidate and buy.

Ngozi Iweala should team up with good guys like Ribadu or El Rufai or even Jerry Gana Ala Abiola/Kingibe to give us good Government.

Until we resume sentiment from our political thinking.

The mess will continue.

Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has performed and we have all seen it. in an organised and progressive country, Dr Ngozi-Iweala will be encouraged to context with opposition.

Alas for selfish reasons,Babandi is the reverse.

Iweala/Ribadu 2007 is the dream team and is the team to beat.

Good day Sir,

The alliance you suggested in the article referenced can not and will not work.

For one, this is the same mentality that those that foisted Obasanjo on the nation had after the demise of Abacha and Abiola. They wanted a compromise candidate, and who better filled that cap than Obasanjo. Today where are we? Most thought that Obasanjo's experience in jail would have prepared him to truly serve the nation. But we are all witness to the ineptude and corruption that is the order of the day today. This ineptude led to the resignation of Iwealla, whom you mispelled her name.

Buhari does not have the kind of record that Nigeria needs in this time. For one he is part of teh corrupt ex leaders who need to be investigated and tried for his activities while a head of state, and his role as head of various money spinning and sharing agencies.

Sir, if we desire a true progresive and stable nation we must shed the toga of all past leaders. We must investigate all past leaders and their cronies and the source of their stupendious wealth. We must be sincere about the type of union we want for our nation and people and follow through by holding past leaders accountable so that new incoming leaders will know that they can not and will never get away with looting and dragging the nation backward.

Sir, Buhari is from the old stock who use divide and rule to intimidate and manipulate the system. For this reason alone he is not qualified to hold center stage in Nija politics.

As for Iwealla, she has tainted herself by been part of this corrupt and inept government. She has to give account of her stewardship. She lied when she said pressing family matters made her resign, we all know she was humiliated and sideliend, do we need such lying individual as VP? Iwealla, is a fraud, she represents International financial institution not the people of Nigeria.

Finally bros, We need a new slate and new lease to life as nation. Many regions are clamouring for self rule, their grievienaces are justified and must be addressed.

Buhari/ Iwealla is a cosmetic solution to the structural and systematic solution needed to move our nation forward. Please sir, do not be on the side of thoe that has helped ruin this nation.

Aloy

This is what is called democracy we all have the right to differ with each other but our Nation remains united despite our differences.
