PRESS RELEASE

Calling OBJ to Apologize

Turaki Vanguard, Oct 3, 2006

WITH THE MONUMENTAL COLLAPSE AND IGNOMINIOUS EXPOSURE OF THE PEDESTAL MOTIVE OF THE OFFICIALLY SPONSORED COCKTAIL OF LIES AGAINST VICE PRESIDENT ATIKU ABUBAKAR, DEMANDS THAT PRESIDENT OLUSEGUN OBASANJO MUST FORMALLY APOLOGISE TO THE NATION NOW!

Fellow compatriots, as committed citizens, and patriotic Nigerians dedicated to entrenchment and maturity of the country’s democratic process, we are resolved not to rest on our oars until President Olusegun Obasanjo retracts from unwholesome corruptive tendencies, vindictive behaviors and incestuous political practice.  We have followed closely with total consternation and regret how President Obasanjo is bent in rubbishing, ridiculing and bastardizing the office of the Vice President, in a futile effort to degenerate and demonise the person of Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the name of power politics.

Ordinary, Turaki Vanguard would not have been perturbed by the travails of the Vice President in the hands of a vindictive, egomaniac, and megalomaniac boss for such may be parts of the sacrifices he has to pay in his bid to salvage and sustain the country’s rudderless democracy. But for the dimension and scope the political feud has assumed which to us and all patriotic Nigerians is a worrisome hue.  If President Obasanjo and Vice president Aiku Abubakar had differed in democratic principles and ideologies, it would have been a healthy development for an emerging democracy like Nigeria but for the Presidency to condescend  to the temptation of reenacting a modern day type of Paul Goebals propaganda  in order to smear the character and rubbish the political goodwill and integrity of the office and person of Vice President Atiku Abubakar that is what, we find as must absurd and repulsive in the practice of decent and respectable politics and to  us as co-stake-holders in the democratic evolution of our country Nigeria this is abhorring and unacceptable.

From the way things were done in the PDP starting from the party’s kangaroo revalidation cum concocted registration exercise from the Ward/ Local, State to the National Congresses through courage and painful struggle expanded in the historical internment of the infamous third term agenda of President Obasanjo, Nigerians have come to the realization that Atiku Abubakar stands today shoulder high as a popular embodiment of the quest for emancipation and democratic principles of our country. We make bold to state that President Obasanjo’s antagonistic acts against him has endeared him more and upped his   popularity and acceptability among Nigerians than ever before.  But rather than allow Nigerians to decide the Vice President’s fate in 2007 President Obasanjo and his cohorts have taken it upon themselves for reasons best known to them to embark upon an exercise that would apparently end in futility to shut him out from the 2007 presidential election.  Progressive Nigerians see such a  diabolical scheming as totally unacceptable as it is capable of leading to political instability in the country that would occasion prolonging the tenure of Mr. President beyond 29th May 2007 being the terminal date for this administration which may be the facts of all these scheming. But for avoidance of doubt based on some other factors we intend to state in this write-up let us reiterate that the tenure of President Obasanjo as the President of Nigeria ends on 29th May 2007 and nothing on earth will permit him to stay a day longer than that date as approved by the Constitution the havoc he has done to the polity is enough.

Recent emerging revelation exposing the true intent of President Obasanjo in his antagonistic and vindictive mission against Vice President Atiku Abubakar by a seasoned and respected politician and Journalist Chief Segun Osoba former Executive Governor of Ogun State once again vindicates our earlier stand that Mr. President and his surrogates are so desperate to ridicule and smear the good image of Vice President Atiku Abubakar. According to Chief Segun Osoba campaign political funding    are not normally investigated with convincing instances from USA and Britain that all that President Obasanjo is after is to ridicule and make Vice President Atiku Abubakar the fall guy and scapegoat in order to stop him from contesting the 2007 Presidential election. With all the facts so far exposed it becomes very glaring that it was Atiku Abubakar that funded the PDP Presidential and other elections and to demonstrate how naïve and malicious Obasanjo and PDP leadership can be they turn around to use the good deeds done to them by Atiku Abubakar to blackmail him before Nigerians forgotten that “when you break the hives of the bees the stinging goes round and the bees will go after any body. That’s what is happening in the Presidency now. (Osoba, 2006) When the President started the war he never knew he will be consumed by it as is the case now.  It becomes imperative and gladdens to point out to President Obasanjo and his little minded companion that they are not capable of lighting the fire that will consume Atiku Abubakar as God who used him to install the PDP leadership in Nigeria is also capable of installing him President come 2007.

Apart from this, the recent revelation and exoneration of any illegal charge against Vice President Atiku Abubakar by the USA Government and debunking the insinuation that they influenced the ongoing illegal trail of the Vice President contradicts what Nigerians are fed with by President Obasanjo and his secreted team. This revelation was done recently through the USA Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Ms Jendayi Frazer. This great lady of virtue rightly captured the intents of President Obasanjo and his surrogates thus “And so politicians will do whatever they will to- sorry – to smear the reputation of their opponents. We know this. But that really is a charge against our Congressman, not against Vice President Atiku” Madam you are damn right! God will continue to bless you and your government and to save us from the hands of ingrates, wicked and short sighted leaders currently parading themselves as our Leaders.

With the owning up of Chief Samuel Ogbomadia Chairman PDP National Convention of the receipt of N40 million used in organizing the PDP Convention, the revelation of bank PNB Paribaz the bank of Paris of loaning Globacom the money it used in acquiring its operational license as well as the fact that PTDF money was returned intact with N1billion interest, and couple with the fact that  The Vice President acted within the  ambit of law and in accordance with the approval of the Accountant General of the Federation coupled with that the kangaroo ad-hoc panel report and that of the EFCC did not in any way state that Atiku both benefited directly or indirectly or even enriched himself from the purported and much touted transactions.  Therefore, we state in the strongest term that the EFCC/Ojo’s panel reports, not only  lack merit, it is uncoordinated, predetermined, disjointed and should be thrown to the dustbin where it rightly belongs and should not in any way be used to stop Vice President Atiku Abubakar from contesting the 2007 Election..

Our consolation in this altercation between Obasanjo and Atiku is that the purported indictment of Atiku has availed Nigerians the opportunity to know the many sins and corruptive nature of Mr. President while playing the Saint. With the acceptance of Obasanjo Holding Limited of investing in TRANSCORP, thereby contradicting Mr President’s earlier denials, coupled with the recent revelation that Obasanjo’s family, community, friends and PDP Have benefited enormously from the much noised MOFAS account proved how corrupt this once respected  ‘Messiah’ and elder statesman has turned himself to. What a fallacy?

As a Co-Founder of the Transparency International (TI) and a vowed Crusader against corruption in Nigeria Mr. President should let Nigerians know the answers to the following questions from the Egba Youths Front Abekouta as carried by Uncle Duro Onabule in his column in the daily Sun of September 22, 2006:-a) who owns the Delta Steel Company? b) Why was it sold for a paltry $30 million when the winning bid was much higher? c) Who owns the two oil blocks recently won by a Korean company? d) Why was the highest bidder, an Indian Company turned down in favour of the Koreans? e) Who owns Arik Air? f) Who bought Eleme Petro-Chemicals? g) Why was BPE not allowed to cancel the sale despite the fact that Indorama has not been able to pay fully for nearly a year now? h)Why have the EFCC , ICPC, Code of Conduct Tribunal yet to act on Chief Gani’s  petition  after one year against the use of public funds  by some government agencies to support the launching of Obasanjo's Presidential Library project knowing very well that it was illegal . i) Where is the EFCC report that indicted Chief George Bode over his NPA activities? J) When will Nigerians know the financial activities of the Ministry of Finance and NNPC? Thanks to Obasanjo Holdings Ltd Operators at least we now know who owns majority shares in TRANSCORP. Truly Mr. President we are waging a serious war against corruption and we can now know why the World Bank it its recent report did not list our country among countries fighting against corruption.

Today President Obasanjo has turned the FG and PDP into one lawless society that has no respect for our constitution and rule of law. If not how does one interpret all the illegal and unconstitutional acts a sitting Vice President has suffered in the hands of President Obasanjo and his acolytes. How could an uncultured Fani-Kayode the Minister of Ministry of Culture have the audacity, temerity and effrontery to insult an elected Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, questioning his right to seat in the Federal Executive Council and some little minds are celebrating such a planned plot against a constituted authority that is capable of disintegrating this Country. The FG in its show of shame in its effort to constantly abuse our constitution has decided to charge a sitting Vice President to the Code of Conduct Bureau over recommendations of an illegally set-up Committee knowing the illegality of such an act if not to ridicule the office of the Vice President.

Nigerians should note that it has been brought to our notice of the threat and scheming to stop Atiku Abubakar from attending the FEC meetings contrary to the provisions of the constitution to us such a story is meant for the unborn Nigerians and can not be feasible in our time. The idea of treating Atiku Abubakar as if he has no body in Nigeria must be stopped forthwith as we all are stake-holders in the project Nigeria and therefore  not inferior to any group or section of this country let us not therefore used our little  privileges to insult or ignite a fight we can not complete . We think that enough is enough!

We must commend Prof Ben Nwabueze, Prof Wole Soyonka, Prof Omo Omoruyi, Chief Clement Ebiri, Prince Benjamin Apugo, Senator Farouk Bunza and many other patriotic Nigerians even the USA government that have on different occasions and severally pointed to Mr. President and his team the illegality and futility of their vindictive acts against Vice President Atiku Abubakar

As much as true democrats we will not argue with  Tsav,  Bishop Mbang, Chief  Dan Etibert, Chief Paul Unogo  and those who have failed to be objective instead are trying to bring in tribal, religious sentimental  in the efforts of President Obasanjo to ridicule an innocent man. If any of them is seeking relevance in a fading dynasty we wish them good luck.  Our only consolation is that God is watching all our acts and that Nigerians are gradually coming to terms to the plots to rubbish an innocent man.

Today Mr. President has set up a laughable court of political jesters and imposters as leaders of the Ali’s faction of PDP whose past anti-democratic principles are well known to Nigerians in order for them to make him Life Leader of a party he neither knew how, where and when it was formed or funded. Through which he intend to aspire to be the next African Political Leader after the great Nelson Mandala which but recent happenings in Nigeria have made it an elusive dream. President Obasanjo during the last PDP NEC meeting( ALI’s Faction) was bragging that PDP controls 29 States of the Federation and therefore should be assumed to be the mega party forgetting that at the appropriate time he will find out that it is only 3 governors that are still within their camp

It is sad and unfortunate that Mr. President allowed Political Jobbers and squatters to misadvise him against an innocent man who has done him no wrong by trying to ridiculing him publicly.

In conclusion with the exposure of the evil intents against an innocent man; the collapsed and unacceptability of the cocktail of lies from Mr. President and his surrogates by Nigerians; the recent revelation by the World Bank that Nigeria is not among the countries fighting against corruption; failure of all the systems in Nigeria particularly poor power generation after all the billions of naira that have gone down the drills in this regard; dead traps that are called Federal Roads in Nigeria after over N300 billion  is expanded in this regard; illegal withdrawal of funds from the federation account; pursing of programmes that heightened tensions in the polity; lack of respect for the constitution and rule of law; institution of monumental corruption in the land; increasing the misery, woes and sufferings of many Nigerians families through massive sack from their places of work and many other reasons too numerous to state here - we are hereby demanding for unreserved apology to all Nigerians for the monumental failure of this administration from President Obasanjo.  The apology should also be sent to Atiku for falsely accusing him of a misappropriating fund that was kept intact and interest of N1billion returned as an interest by President Obasanjo.

We must finally commend and congratulate Atiku Abubakar for his dignified, statesmanship displayed in the face of such errant provocation and malicious acts against him and for patiently wanting for the   conjectures and evil lies to vanish into thin air to pave way for the truth to prevail as he earlier predicted.

We hereby urge all our members and progressive Nigerians to return to the trenches and start electioneering campaign for your next President (Atiku Abubakar) come 2007.
