This Month, Arewa-online Award Committee voted unanimously in the area of Disaster Response Efforts Responding to natural and man-made disasters, bringing relief and aid to those who need it most is a very important aspect of development today in Africa, and evidently in Nigeria. Specifically, no one in Nigeria is pioneering in this respect other than the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, ALHAJI AHMED MOH'D MAKARFI (www.kaduna-state.com) who created a Disaster Response & Relief Agency - KADUNA STATE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (KAD-SEMA) - headed by Dr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Durunguwa.  Disaster-relief efforts require rapid response. But the help must be of the right type which means that local people are essential even in the disaster setting, and the efforts must cooperate with other local and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to bring about comfort and relief to those affected. No one is more suitable to the task than Dr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Durunguwa, whose expertise, experience and commitment preceded him. Dr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Durunguwa, until now, held the following positions among others: Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor Kaduna State; Patron Wotclef Club Kaduna; Member Child Care Trust Fund Abuja; President, Rotary Club of Zaria-City; Head of Investigation Dept. Dr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Durunguwa was born in Tuyit kagoro, Kachia. He acquired Certificate in Computer Studies at Kaduna Polytechnic and did his Bachelor and Masters in Administration & Planning at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. He later received an Honorary Award of Doctorate Degree in Public Administration 2004 (By All Saints University, U.S.A.). He has written several papers including the most recent: " Matching the Challenges of History with the Circumstances and Realities of today", The Way Forward on a Special Conference Organised by Mobgal Fulbe Dev. Association on The Future Of Fulbe Population in Kaduna State, at Kongo Conference Hotel, Zaria, and "Settlement and Land Tenure System, as it Affects the Fulani Man" On All Ardube Conference Organised By Mobgal Fulbe Dev. Association, at Arewa House Kaduna. He received numerous Awards among others including: KADUNA STATE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (KAD-SEMA) under the leadership of Dr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Durunguwa is committed to working in smaller home community to address particular health needs and strengthen disaster-preparedness and response efforts, and seeks to bring the caring and compassion of God and God's people to individuals and communities whose lives have been affected by disaster. The Agency is fully committed to working in partnership with many NGOs to help facilitate development in the state with especially - The New Partnership for Africa’s Development & Reform: THE GREATER AFRICAN REFORM INITIATIVES (GARI - www.african-reform.org) and (NEPAD -
www.nepad.org) with a VISION and STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK FOR DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS, and with many other International organization from North America and Europe. The Inside Approach initiated by GARI needs a new radical intervention, spearheaded by African leaders, to develop a new Vision that would guarantee Renewal in Partnership. Governor Makarfi has once again shown leadership and Vision by creating this Agency that will form Strategic Partnership with International Community to mobilize financing and resources to effected areas. The (KAD-SEMA) target areas and in-depth Strategies and Objectives will soon be available in the Agency New Website currently being developed. |
